Invesco is reducing the annual charge on its $6.6bn ETF tracking Global Equity Markets. The exchange-traded fund (ETF) is now 0.05%, undercutting the industry average of 0.20%.
The effect scales with portfolio size. Below is an illustration:
£50,000, investment and assuming the underlying market delivers a 7% annual gross return before fees would produce a difference of roughly £5,470 over 20 years, and on £100,000 it would be about £10,940.
The exact number will change with market returns, but the principle stays the same: lower ongoing charges improve long-run wealth accumulation
A procuration fee is a commission. Typically, a mortgage lender pays this to a mortgage broker or intermediary. It is typically a percentage of the loan amount e.g. 0.3% to 0.5% paid on completion of the mortgage transaction
Some borrowers (especially younger ones) still face separate broker advice fees on top of lender procuration fees. Understand your rights under the Consumer Duty rules.
You’re not on your own – support is available to help you challenge your broker, manage conflicts of interest, and ensure you receive fair value and a genuinely good outcome.
The FCA is consulting on a compensation scheme for customers who were mis-sold car finance. Anyone eligible could receive an average of around £700 for each agreement
Eligibility includes a discretionary commission arrangement (DCA), unfairly high commission or an undisclosed contractual tie
DCAs were hidden incentives that permitted brokers to hike interest rates in exchange for higher commissions, directly linking increased customer costs to broker profit. Click here to understand more:
Hargreaves Lansdown has cut its headline platform and dealing fees for the first time in more than a decade. From 1 March 2026, the platform fee on ISAs and SIPPs will fall from 0.45% to 0.35%
Do not dismiss a 0.5% or 1% fee because it sounds small. Relative to a 6% or 7% expected return, a 1% fee actually consumes 15% to 20% of your annual profit. Over decades, this creates a wealth gap.
The table below illustrates how a 0.75% difference in fees affects a £100,000 UK portfolio.
